Forest bathing at Margam Country Park

An 850 acre estate below Mynydd y Castell, with a historic deer park, woodland and the ruins of a Cistercian abbey.

Margam Country Park is a large historic estate about two miles from Port Talbot, covering around 850 acres between the coast and the hill of Mynydd y Castell. Deer have lived here since at least Norman times, and the grounds hold the ruins of Margam Abbey, the 18th century orangery and the Tudor Gothic Margam Castle. Beyond the formal gardens there is mixed woodland, including along the Cwm Philip valley stream.

The car park and castle courtyard are busy, especially in school holidays, so head out on the waymarked walks towards the woods and higher ground for quieter time. The park is gated with daytime opening hours and last entry an hour before closing; entry is free but the car park charges. There is a café and toilets at the castle visitor courtyard.
