Forest bathing at Overtoun Estate
Mixed oak woodland and a steep wooded glen at the foot of the Kilpatrick Hills, above Dumbarton.
Overtoun Estate is about 55 hectares at the foot of the Kilpatrick Hills, two miles north-east of Dumbarton. Most of it is mixed oak woodland, with grazing land and landscaped gardens around mid-19th-century Overtoun House. The Overtoun Burn cuts a steep glen through the woods, crossed by Overtoun Bridge on the approach to the house. The council describes it as a quiet place for walks and picnics.
Drive up Milton Brae from the A82 to the shared car park, or walk in from Campbell Avenue in Dumbarton on the right of way. The lower paths are surfaced and fine for pushchairs, though some stretches are steep or muddy. Overtoun Glen has steep sections and stairs, so it is not suitable for wheelchairs, but it is the place to sit by the water under the trees. From here you can carry on uphill into Lang Craigs.
