Forest bathing at Padarn Country Park
An 800 acre country park at Llanberis, with Coed Dinorwig, one of the largest ancient sessile oakwoods in Wales.
Padarn Country Park covers about 800 acres beside Llyn Padarn at Llanberis, run by Gwynedd Council. Climbing the slopes above the lake is Coed Dinorwig, an ancient sessile oak woodland that is one of the largest in Wales and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The wood grows among the remains of the slate industry: old quarry workings, a former woollen mill turned slate works, and a zigzag path built by quarry workers up a spoil heap.
Waymarked woodland trails start in the park: a lower trail of about three kilometres and a top trail of about four, taking an hour and a half to two and a half hours. Some paths are uneven, steep or beside drops, and the quarry areas have deep water, so keep to the waymarked routes. The higher trail takes you furthest into the oaks. The park is open daily all year.
