Forest bathing at University of Dundee Botanic Garden

A 9.5 hectare botanic garden on slopes above the Tay, with conifer and broadleaf collections laid out by continent.

The University of Dundee Botanic Garden covers 9.5 hectares of south facing slopes near the River Tay, off Riverside Drive close to Dundee Airport. It was developed in the 1970s from a field with just one mature tree, and now holds collections of conifers and broadleaved trees, water and herb gardens, and tropical and temperate glasshouses. The plants are laid out by region, so you can walk from British plants into American, Australasian and Asian sections.

This is the arboretum choice for Dundee: compact, well kept and easy to walk, with plenty of trees to stop and look at closely. The garden is open seven days a week and charges admission, while the coffee shop is free to visit. Weekday mornings are the quietest time. The tree collections are good in autumn, and the glasshouses give somewhere warm on a cold day.
