Forest bathing at Llyn Crafnant

A long, quiet lake above Trefriw ringed by forest, with a level riverside path and a full circuit of the shore.

Llyn Crafnant is a reservoir about three quarters of a mile long, set in a steep valley in the Gwydir Forest Park about four miles west of Llanrwst. It was once the town's water supply, given to Llanrwst in 1896. Forest runs down to the shore, and from the water you look across to the mountains, so it is an easy place to sit and watch the light change.

Everything starts from the free car park below the lake. The Afon Crafnant Amble is short, flat and well surfaced, suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, and follows the river through trees with benches along the way. The Llyn Crafnant Circuit goes right round the lake on mostly easy tracks with a few rougher stretches, and is the best choice for a slow couple of hours. The View Walk and the trail over to Llyn Geirionydd are steeper and rougher, with small fords, for when you want more height.
