Forest bathing at Wakerley Great Wood

A quiet forest north of Corby with free parking among the larches and informal paths along tracks and forest roads.

Wakerley Great Wood lies about ten miles north of Corby, off the A43 near the village of Wakerley, and close to Fineshade Wood. It is run by Forestry England, and the car park sits among larch trees. Unlike its busier neighbour it has no café, no waymarked trails and no visitor centre, which makes it one of the calmer woods in this part of the county. You can wander and stop where you like.

Walking here means following the many informal paths along forest roads and tracks, some surfaced and some not. There is no easy access route, and no designated accessible parking, though the car parks have hard standing. Parking is free and the wood is open every day from dawn until dusk. Bring what you need, as there are no facilities on site, and take a map: without waymarks it is easy to lose track of where you started. Cyclists use the forest roads, so the narrower tracks are quieter.
