Forest bathing at Faskally Wood
A 19th century model woodland around Loch Dunmore near Pitlochry, with gentle paths and a strong mix of trees.
Faskally Wood sits just north west of Pitlochry, around the small Loch Dunmore. It was created in the 19th century as a model woodland by the owners of Faskally House, which later became a school for young foresters, and it still has a wide mix of tree species. Water lilies cover parts of the loch in summer, goldeneye ducks nest in the trees, and kingfishers and herons fish along the edges. It is flat, sheltered and easy to wander slowly.
The Dunmore Trail is an easy access loop around the loch, and the Foresters' Trail takes you past the different tree species; autumn colour here is particularly good. The car park is charged, with free spaces for Blue Badge holders, and there are toilets, accessible toilets and a picnic area. From early October to early November the Enchanted Forest light show runs here and the car parks close in the evenings, so visit in daylight.
