Forest bathing at Favour Royal Forest

Conifer forest blocks between Augher and Aughnacloy, with a deer lawn, wildflower meadow and old holy well.

Favour Royal is a group of mainly conifer forest blocks close to the Augher and Aughnacloy roads in south Tyrone. It's an unfussy working forest, crossed by the Ulster Way and several other waymarked trails, with a few things to slow down for along the way.

There are two car parks. From the Favour Royal car park you can walk to a wildflower meadow and a deer lawn, open ground that makes a change from the plantation. From the Altadavin car park, signposted at Altadavin Road off the Augher to Aughnacloy road, paths lead to St Patrick's Chair, a huge stone in the woods, and St Brigid's Well. With no visitor facilities, it tends to be quiet. Parts of the forest may close at times for forestry work.
