Forest bathing at Glen Doll

A valley forest at the head of Glen Clova, with picnic spots by the South Esk and trails up towards Corrie Fee.

Glen Doll is a Forestry and Land Scotland forest at the very head of Glen Clova, inside the Cairngorms National Park. The forest fills the valley floor beside the South Esk, with craggy hillsides rising above, and six trails lead out from the car park to viewpoints above the woods. One trail climbs to Corrie Fee National Nature Reserve, a natural amphitheatre carved by a glacier, where rare alpine plants survive from the last Ice Age. Golden eagles are sometimes seen.

It is a long, quiet drive up the B955 from Kirriemuir, and once you are there the valley feels remote. The picnic spots by the burn are a good place to sit for a while before or after a walk. There are toilets, including accessible toilets, at the car park, and a parking charge (Blue Badge holders free). Fires and barbecues are banned from April to September under the national park fire byelaw.
