Forest bathing at Glen Finglas

The Woodland Trust's largest estate, with old wood pasture trees scattered over open hillside above Brig o' Turk.

Glen Finglas is the Woodland Trust's biggest site, close to 5,000 hectares around Brig o' Turk in the Trossachs, and part of the Great Trossachs Forest National Nature Reserve. It is best known for upland wood pasture, old trees standing on open grazing land, among the finest examples of this habitat in the UK. Alder, birch, sessile oak, Scots pine, juniper, hazel, rowan and aspen grow here. It was a royal hunting forest for more than 300 years.

Most routes start at the Visitor Gateway at Lendrick Hill car park, just east of Brig o' Turk. There are nine waymarked routes, from easy surfaced paths to remote hill walks that need a map and compass. For a gentle start, the Play Trail through Little Druim Wood takes about 40 minutes and has a red squirrel feeding station. The old wood pasture trees further up the glen are the place to sit quietly.
