Woodland on Kinnoull Hill above Perth

Forest bathing at Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park

Mature beech and pine woodland on the hill above Perth, with an arboretum and views over the River Tay.

Kinnoull Hill rises on the east side of Perth, across the River Tay from the city centre. Forestry and Land Scotland manage the woodland, including Deuchny Wood, jointly with Perth and Kinross Council and the Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park Group. The hill is covered in mature beech and pine, with a small arboretum, and the trails lead out to viewpoints high above the Tay. The old Coronation Road, an ancient right of way, links the woods to Scone.

It is the obvious easy-access choice near Perth. The free Jubilee car park, next to the Kinnoull Shed, is about two and a half kilometres from the city centre up Muirhall Road, and there is a regular bus. You can also walk in from town, crossing the river and joining the footpath into the wood above Branklyn Garden. There is a picnic area and Blue Badge parking. The viewpoints draw people; the beech woods on the way are quieter.
