Forest bathing at Wepre Park
A 160-acre country park in Connah's Quay, with sessile oak woodland, a brook and waterfall, and Ewloe Castle in the trees.
Wepre Park is a 160-acre country park in the middle of Connah's Quay, run by Flintshire County Council. It grew up beside an ancient woodland, and Wepre Woods are designated for their sessile oak. Wepre Brook runs down through the trees past Pont Aber and a waterfall, and the ruins of Ewloe Castle, looked after by Cadw, stand in the woods about a kilometre from the visitor centre.
Start at the visitor centre on Wepre Drive, which sits on the cellars of the old Wepre Hall, and head into the woods along the brook. The play area, football pitches and gardens near the entrance are the busy part; the woodland walks towards the castle and up the valley are much quieter. It is an easy park to reach from Deeside towns, and the oak woods come into their own in spring leaf and autumn colour. Paths can be muddy along the brook after rain.
